About the Editor

I was born in Gravesend Kent back in 1959, and when I was about a year old we move to a small village called Hoo, near Rochester.

I began fishing when I was about 12 years old, fishing the local pits and streams and like most youngsters quite happy catching anything that came our way until one day my cousin Paul and I were introduced to the Kingfisher Lake, a small private members only lake which was crammed packed with Carp. Carp that were in access of 20lb.

Back in those days Bivvies were unheard of and the only shelter we had was an umbrella with a sheet of tarpaulin over it. Bite indication was with washing up bottle tops and electronic bite alarms were in there infancy with the Heron bite alarm just braking on to the market which was an extremely noisy and uncontrollable thing which was frowned upon by the older generation.

None of this stopped Paul and I from spending every minute we could camped out on the banks. Every Friday night we would get home from school, pack as much gear as we could fit on our choppers, that was a bike for you youngsters out there, and that would be us camped out in all weather until late sunday night.

In 1977 at the age of seventeen I joined the army and served queen and country for 11 years, traveling the world seeing new places and meeting new people, but never had much time for fishing.

After being demobbed in 1988, I took up Carp angling again, and it was like entering into a new world. The sport had advanced so dramatically it was unbelievable. After a period of getting to grips with all the new gear and tactics and everything else that had changed I was now back into it. Only now I was fishing Horseshoe Lake in Lechlade five time the size of what I was used to and with some of the most magnificent Carp in the UK.

Now almost 38 years on I can think of no better place then camped out beside a beautiful lake waiting for the ultimate thrill that is playing a magnificent Carp!
