Carp Fishing Tackle: Century NCS 12' Carp Fishing Rod Review

For me, there's nothing more enjoyable than dropping a line into the water and matching wits with a wily fish like the carp. Whilst other anglers prefer the "glamour" species, trout and salmon, I've chosen the focus on carp. These beautiful fish provide quite a fight when on the line, and having the right carp fishing tackle can give you a distinct advantage. Here's a brief review of a piece of tackle that I particularly favour, the Century NCS 12' rod.

About the Century NCS 12' Carp Fishing Rod

Tested by world-class carp anglers, the NCS (New Century Speed) rod combines all the attributes of a high-tech design with classic, proven performance. One thing I noticed right away is that this UK-built rod has a good level of tip action but retains the desirable progressive C curve that's so important to many carp anglers like me. Another feature I like is that the reel seat is made from a Fuji NPS but has a modified and improved aluminium winch and screw. The winch is castellated, which means that it has indentations similar to the battlements commonly seen on castles. This feature ensures that the rod will be exceptionally durable and will resist torsional forces quite well.

Features of the Century NCS 12' Carp Rod

Century rods are built in a modern factory, using the latest equipment and techniques. For this reason, Century is the first company to have ISO 9001, ISO 14001 and OHSAS 18001 accreditation. These certifications mean that the company adheres to a rigorous set of quality and environmental standards, as well as to key health and safety regulations. An innovative aspect of the manufacturing process is the use of an industrial autoclave that allows the blanks to be made from an optimal combination of a special resin matrix and carbon fibre. This technique produces a rod that better withstands rough use and facilitates accurate distance casts because of the material's superior strength and density. I also noticed that the Century NCS rod feels crisper and more responsive in my hand, despite that it's slimmer than many other rods in the same class.

More Features of the 12' NCS Rod

Although the appearance of a rod isn't tremendously important to me, I do appreciate the NCS's understated silk varnish finish. Below the butt ring is a single dark blue trim band. The intermediate guides are graduated based on the size of the butt guide, so the rod has an attractive, symmetrical look. The butt grip is made from Japanese shrink rubber in a black colour. The rubber covers a built up tapered profile that I've found to be quite ergonomic, so the rod is comfortable to hold for long periods. Finally, the butt cap and other trim are etched stainless steel.

Selling for about £215.00, the Century 12' NCS rod is a great piece of carp fishing tackle with a superior design that supports all latest features you'd expect from a quality rod.
